PrettyGet

1. Overview

PrettyGet is a free desktop application for Windows, developed by Gohsty, that provides a graphical interface for winget, the Windows Package Manager. This policy explains exactly what happens to your data when you use it.

2. Data We Do NOT Collect

PrettyGet does not collect, store, or transmit any personally identifiable information to us. We do not operate any server that receives data from the application.

Specifically, the application has:

• No account system, registration, or login of any kind.
• No analytics or telemetry.
• No crash or error reporting.
• No advertising.
• No automatic update check.

We have no way of knowing who uses PrettyGet, how often, or what software you manage with it.

3. Locally Stored Data

PrettyGet stores the following on your device only:

• Interface preferences — your language choice and panel settings.
• Background service configuration and log — if you enable the optional background service, its settings and activity log are written to C:\ProgramData\PrettyGet\. The log records package operations performed by the service.
• Exported package lists — if you use the export or import feature, temporary files containing your list of installed packages are written to your system's temporary folder.

This data never leaves your computer and is removed when you uninstall the application and delete the folders above.

4. Connections Made by PrettyGet Itself

From version 0.1.1 onwards, PrettyGet makes no network connections of its own. It does not contact any server operated by us or by any third party, and it contains no tracking pixels or third-party components that load remote content.

5. Connections Made by the Windows Package Manager

PrettyGet does not download software itself — it asks winget to do so on your behalf. winget is developed by Microsoft and included with Windows.

When you search for, install, update, or remove a package, winget connects directly to:

• Microsoft's Windows Package Manager repositories, to retrieve the package catalogue and metadata.
• The download servers of the software publisher, to retrieve the installer for the package you selected.

These connections are made by winget and by Windows, not by PrettyGet, and they expose your IP address and the identity of the requested package to those parties. This is identical to what happens when you run winget yourself in a terminal.

We have no control over, access to, or visibility of any data handled by those parties.

6. Administrator Privileges and Scheduled Tasks

Installing and updating software on Windows requires administrator privileges. When you perform such an operation, PrettyGet requests elevation through the standard Windows User Account Control prompt. These privileges are used solely to carry out the operation you requested.

If you enable scheduling, PrettyGet registers a task with the Windows Task Scheduler on your computer. If you install the optional background service, it runs locally on your machine. Neither sends anything to us.

7. Managing Other Computers on Your Network

PrettyGet includes an optional feature for running package operations on other Windows computers on your own network, using PowerShell Remoting.

If you choose to use it, PrettyGet connects to the computers you specify, runs the command you requested, and displays the output those machines return. Authentication is handled entirely by Windows using your existing network credentials — PrettyGet does not ask for, store, or transmit passwords.

These connections stay within your own network. Nothing is sent to us or to any third party.

8. Donations

PrettyGet is free and contains no advertising. The application includes links to donation platforms such as GitHub Sponsors and Buy Me a Coffee. These links open in your normal web browser, and any information you provide there is handled by those platforms under their own privacy policies. The application itself sends them no data about you.

9. Children's Privacy

PrettyGet is a system administration tool and is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy if the application's behaviour changes. The date at the top of this page indicates when it was last revised. Material changes will be noted in the application's release notes.
